Originality means something different to everyone. Some people gave very interesting answers; some of the answers are very funny. I can see that many people had difficulties in giving definition of originality. I categorised all answers into 5 groups: uniqueness (unique, different, unusual, extraordinary, not a copy/standard), novelty (something never seen/done, new, fresh, first, innovative), individuality (being yourself, own style, personal, individual), normality and other (the beginning of something, real, no such a thing).

Better defined by what is not i.e. rip off, derivative. However ... refer to Darwin's 'Origin of Species' or read the First Testament in artistic term, any recognised advancement on established style. Useful quote: 'There is something far finer, far rarer than ability. It is the ability to recognise ability! |
